Staying Young at Heart!

Staying Young at Heart!

First a Quote: “You don’t stop laughing when you grow old, you grow old when you stop laughing.” George Bernard Shaw

Hello and happy Monday.

For those of you who celebrate Easter, happy belated blessings!

For all, I hope you enjoyed a wonderful weekend and holiday.

Our family celebrated the joyous day with a family meal, stories, laughs, and even an Easter Egg hunt for adults. We had a lot of fun! Which brought me to today’s message, staying young at heart.

In a world obsessed with anti-aging creams and miracle diets, the true key to staying youthful may lie not in your reflection, but in your mindset. “Stay young at heart” isn’t just a feel-good phrase—it’s a lifestyle approach that can lead to greater happiness, health, and longevity.

Being young at heart means embracing curiosity, laughter, and love no matter your age. It’s about keeping a playful spirit, finding joy in the little things, and never letting go of your sense of wonder.

Science backs this up too—studies show that people who maintain a positive outlook and strong emotional connections tend to live longer, experience less stress, and enjoy better physical health.

It doesn’t take drastic changes to adopt this mindset.

Surround yourself with people who lift you up, try new things even if they scare you a little, and take time to appreciate the beauty of each day. Whether it’s dancing in the kitchen, learning a new skill, or simply laughing until your sides hurt, these moments keep your heart—and soul—vibrant.

Age may add wisdom and a few wrinkles to our skin, but staying young at heart is a choice, a mindset that brings energy, joy, and connection into everyday life. It’s not about denying your age, but about embracing life with curiosity, kindness, and play.

“Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind.” Samuel Ullman

Here are six ideas to consider for keeping your heart young, no matter how many birthdays you’ve celebrated:

1. Embrace Playfulness

Don’t take life too seriously. Make time for fun, silliness, and spontaneity. Whether it’s organizing an Easter Egg hunt for your adult children, singing in the shower or riding a Faris Wheel at the county fair, give yourself permission to play. These moments spark joy and remind us of the simple pleasures that never grow old.

2. Stay Curious

A curious mind is a youthful mind. Try something new—a hobby, a book outside your usual genre, a new recipe, or a class. Ask questions. Explore. When you keep learning, you keep growing.

3. Connect with Others

Strong relationships are the heartbeat of a joyful life. Stay in touch with friends and family, reach out to someone you haven’t spoken to in a while, or strike up a conversation with a stranger. Genuine connection brings warmth and keeps you feeling alive.

4. Laugh Often

Laughter is genuine medicine. Watch a comedy, swap stories with a friend, or don’t be afraid to laugh at yourself. (I do this a lot… it is a bit of a coping mechanism for my frequent mistakes.) A good laugh relieves stress, lifts your mood, and reminds you not to sweat the small stuff.

5. Celebrate Traditions—With a Twist

Hold on to the traditions that bring meaning, but don’t be afraid to re-imagine them. As I shared above, we invited our adult children to a lighthearted Easter egg hunt. In addition to a few candy-filled eggs, they also found small gifts—coffee gift cards, car wash vouchers, and yes, a little chocolate. We all loved the laughs and a bit of loving competition.

6. Practice Gratitude

A grateful heart is a joyful one. Take a moment each day to notice the simple things that bring you pleasure or happiness—a warm cup of coffee, a call from a friend, a walk in the fresh morning air, a moment of peace.

Gratitude shifts your focus from what’s missing to all that’s meaningful.

No matter your age, staying young at heart is about choosing joy, kindness, and presence. It’s about saying yes to life, again and again.

After all, youth isn’t a number—it’s a feeling. And it’s one you can carry with you, always.
